Coaching Staff

GIRLS HEAD COACH - SCOTT TERRY

This will be Coach Terry’s 9th season at Brookwood. He has been coaching and teaching for the past 20 years. His first two teams at Brookwood won 6 games each. In the 2004-05, 2005-2006 and 2006-07 seasons, the Lady Broncos finished as Region 8-AAAAA Runner-up, while advancing to the Sweet Sixteen all three years. The 2007-08 squad also advanced to the State Tournament. The 2004-2005 squad won the first State Tournament game for girls basketball in Brookwood’s 25 years.  Prior to arriving at Brookwood, Coach Terry spent 5 years at Morrow High and 7 years at Riverdale. His first 3 years at Morrow were as an assistant, the last two as Head Coach. Four of the five years at Morrow, they advanced to the State Final Four, once finishing as State Runner-up. As Head Coach, he led both Morrow squads to 20+ win seasons, the 1999-2000 team was Region Runner-up, advanced to the Final Four and finished #4 in the final season rankings. Coach Terry teaches A.P. Psychology at Brookwood. He graduated from Mercer University in Macon with a B.A. in Political Science and a Masters in Secondary Social Studies Education. Coach Terry’s wife, Elizabeth, also teaches at Brookwood. They have one son, Jonathan (13), who is in 8th grade at Crews Middle School.

 

Girls Assistant Varsity Coach - Rachel Ernst

Rachel graduated from Brookwood High School in 1997 and attended Berry College on a basketball scholarship. She graduated from Berry College in 2001 with a Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education. After college, she coached for three seasons at Berry College and obtained her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education in 2003. This is Rachel’s fifth year teaching health and physical education at Brookwood and will be her fourth season as the assistant for varsity. Rachel and her husband Mike live in Decatur.

 

Girls JV Coach - Sherri Phelan

Sherri graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1998 with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering. In 2001, she completed her Masters in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University and she hopes to complete her teaching certification in Occupational Studies Education at the University of Georgia in the future. Sherri began coaching AAU and individual basketball training in 1997. This will be Sherri's fourth year coaching basketball at Brookwood High School. Sherri and her husband Chris have a 4 year old daughter named Kate, a two year old son named Drew, and a baby named Ben.

 

Girls 9th Grade Coach - Angie McLane

Angie graduated from the University of Georgia in 1986 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in English Education. The following fall, she began teaching Latin at Brookwood High School. After a sixteen year stint as a stay-at-home mom, Angie began teaching Latin at Crews Middle School in 2005. Angie's basketball coaching career began in 1991 as a coach for various AAU and recreational programs in Georgia. From 2003-2008, Angie was the 8th grade girls basketball coach at Crews Middle School where she led the 2009 team to an Eastern Division championship. She also served as the Brookwood High School Tennis coach from 2005-2007. This will be Angie's first year coaching basketball at Brookwood High School. Angie and her husband Benjie have three children. Her daughter Courtney, age 20, attends the University of Alabama on a tennis scholarship. Her 17 year-old son Ben is a junior at Brookwood. Joey, age 14, is an 8th grader at Crews Middle School. 

 

 

Boys Head Coach - Daniel Bowles

Coach Bowles enters his first season as the head boys basketball coach.  Prior to Brookwood, he spent 3 years as the head coach at South Cobb High School where he compiled an overall record of 43-36.  During that time, 7 players went to college on basketball scholarships, and 2 others received college football scholarships.  Coach Bowles spent time as an assistant coach at Chattahoochee High School, Southern Polytechnic State University, and LaGrange College.  At Southern Polytechnic, he helped the Runnin' Hornets to a 2 year record of 56-14.  During that 2 year span, the team was ranked #1 in the country on 2 separate occassions, and qualified for 2 NAIA National Tournaments. Six players from those teams continued their basketball careers on the professional level in the US or abroad.  Coach Bowles is a Brookwood graduate and played basketball at LaGrange College while obtaining a BA in Human Services and a Masters of Arts in Teaching.  He is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.  He married the former Amy Koester on June 30, 2007.

Boys Varsity Assistant - Kent Doehrman

 This will be Coach Doehrman's 10th season at Brookwood. He has been coaching and teaching for 25 years. He spent 2 years at Lithonia , 2 years at Central Gwinnett and was the Head coach at Meadowcreek High School when it opened up for 14 years before coming to Brookwood. Here at Brookwood he has served as Varsity Assistant to girls, Junior Varsity boys & this year will serve as the boys Varsity assistant. Coach Doehrman's wife is Diane and they have sons Kyle (22), Kurt(18) and Amy (12).

Boys Junior Varsity Coach - Allen Prince

 Allen graduated from Northeast High School in Macon and then attended Fort Valley State University on a Football Scholarship. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Computer Information Systems with a Minor in Business Administration. This is his 9th year working with the basketball program, two as assistant at the JV level and five as the Freshmen coach. Allen have three children, Erin (15) and Nicholas (8), and Niles (4).

Boys 9th Grade Coach - Kevin Strickland

 Coach Strickland enters his 4th year in the Brookwood Broncos boys basketball program as the Freshman team's head coach and a Varsity assistant. He moved to the Atlanta area 8 years ago from Jacksonville, FL (Orange Park) in order to finish his degree at Georgia State University in Health and Physical Education. Coach Strickland also earned a masters degree in Health Studies from the University of Alabama. He currently teaches Health and Physical Education at Alton C. Crews Middle School. Coach Strickland and his wife, Melinda, have been married for 2 years and their son, Ryan, turned 1 year old last summer.

 

Boys 9th Grade Assistant - John Chvatal

John Chvatal enters his 3rd year as an assistant coach with the Brookwood Broncos boys basketball team and is looking forward to another great year. He played basketball at Mercer University where he earned his degree in Environmental Science and where he met his wife, Stacie Chvatal. John also earned a masters degree in Biology from Georgia Tech and a masters in Science Education from Georgia State. He currently teaches Honors, Gifted, and AP Biology and thoroughly enjoys every minute of it! John and his wife have been happily married for over 4 years and are expecting a beautiful baby girl this school year.
